It is little wonder that the book of the Psalms is far and away the most popular book in the Bible. The psalmists often give voice to the thoughts and meditations of our own hearts. There is virtually no experience in life that is not touched on my the themes found in this wonderful collection of hymns. Not only do the psalmists touch on our pains and joys but in the process they manage to expound on the great theological truths of Scripture. On these pages I will be adding notes about various types of psalmic literature. Among the 150 Scriptural psalms there are wisdom psalms, royal psalms, psalms of praise, psalms of lament, imprecatory psalms and penitential psalms. I trust that some of these notes may create more of a desire to examine the psalms. Personally, I enjoy feeding upon the larger body of poetic books as a source of daily encouragement and reflection.
Over the course of the next couple of months I'll make an effort to add commentary to this section.
